Senate Rejects House Budget Conference

This only happens every 17 years or so, so why stop now? The Senate voted 54-46 Tuesday morning to reject a House Republican plan to negotiate on the budget. The vote was along party lines. Meanwhile, President Obama is scheduled to give a press conference on the shutdown at 12:25 p.m. ET. Speaker John Boehner gave a statement on the House’s vote to meet on the budget, but didn’t really mention that the shutdown was happening.
