Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) confirmed The Daily Beast's report on Thursday that her staff was targeted by Russian hackers. In a statement issued by her senate office, she said the hack did not succeed. “Russia continues to engage in cyber warfare against our democracy. I will continue to speak out and press to hold them accountable. While this attack was not successful, it is outrageous that they think they can get away with this,” McCaskill wrote. “I will not be intimidated. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, Putin is a thug and a bully.” The Daily Beast identified McCaskill as one of three midterm candidates believed to have been targeted by Russians so far in the 2018 elections. The Senator's staff were targeted through an email phishing scheme. McCaskill faces a difficult midterm, with her seat widely regarded as one of the most vulnerable this cycle.
