Sarah Burton’s First Show for Alexander McQueen at Paris Fashion Week

Sarah Burton, who inherited the mantle at Alexander McQueen after the designer tragically took his own life last March, showed her first collection at Paris Fashion Week on Thursday. Burton’s collection included dramatic elements, from layers of feathers to daring silhouettes. According to reviewers, she managed to both maintain McQueen’s signature look and bring her own touches. The Guardian called Burton’s inaugural show “unmistakably the house of McQueen, but there were new, more feminine shapes too.” New York Magazine’s Amy Odell wrote, “The shoes were no Armadillos, but they retained McQueen’s signature intricacy.” Some also noted the absence of the late designer’s angst replaced by a softer look that could help bring the label into a new era.
