Santorum Scoffs at Gingrich's Space Plans

Rick Santorum is not amused by Newt Gingrich's overwhelming affinity for outer space. The Republican presidential candidate denounced his competitor's promise to Florida's "Space Coast" that he'd build a permanent U.S. base on the moon, calling the pledge "crass politics." Santorum sees no realistic way for the U.S. to afford such an endeavor, explaining to students at Florida State University, "The idea that anybody is going out and talking brand new, very expensive schemes to spend more money at a time when we do not have our fiscal house in order, in my opinion, is playing crass politics."
