Samsung Pulls Anti-Semitic Cartoon

Samsung has removed online caricatures portraying a hedge-fund founder as a beak-nosed man after widespread outrage accusing the company of anti-Semitism. The cartoon, posted on a South Korean Samsung website, described Elliott Management CEO Paul Singer as “Vulture Man.” In one cartoon, he is depicted “hiding an axe behind his back while taking money from a man in ragged clothes.” The hedge fund earned Samsung’s ire because it opposes a takeover between two of its companies, which gives preference to the Samsung family over other shareholders. “We categorically denounce anti-Semitism in all its forms, and we are committed to respect for all individuals,” Samsung said in a statement.
