Salon to OWS: Cool It With the Port Shutdowns!

Progressive online magazine Salon has been among the news outlets most supportive of Occupy Wall Street—but now they’re worried the movement has gone too far. Salon’s Andrew Leonard writes that Occupiers’ efforts to shut down West Coast shipping ports may be logistically genius and well-intentioned—but it ends up hurting the 99 percent more than the wealthy. “There’s no way to avoid it. Shutting down ‘Wall Street on the Waterfront’ would have some serious collateral damage,” notably workers who transport goods, local retail stores, and export workers. “Goldman Sachs,” on the other hand, “would hardly notice.”
