Rutgers Coach Verbally Abused, Hit Players

Hearing that Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice got in trouble last December for "inappropriate behavior and language" is one thing—but seeing footage of the rampage is entirely another. ESPN obtained several hours of footage that shows the coach grabbing, shoving, and kicking players and screaming obscenities and homophobic slurs. In one instance, he throws a basketball directly at a player's head. According to ESPN, Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti saw 30 minutes of the footage last December, then conducted an investigation that resulted in Rice’s being suspended for three games and fined $50,000, but he never considered firing Rice.
