In a move that is both sketchy and sudden enough to sound like the work of the Kremlin, Dozhd (Rain) TV, Russia’s only independent station, has been dropped by cable providers. The station became famous for covering protests against Vladimir Putin and investigating the government’s corruption. Putin already “liquidated” the state news agency last month to replace it with more propagandist programming. Though the cable providers would not tell Alexander Vinokurov, Dozhd TV’s owner, he believes Putin laid on the pressure. “There’s only one way things happen that quickly in this country,” he said.
