Ron Paul’s Plan to be Kingmaker

Presidential candidate and libertarian champion Ron Paul might be in a three-way tie in Iowa right now, but BuzzFeed reports that he doesn't actually plan to win the GOP nomination. Instead, his plan is to become influential enough at the Republican National Convention to be a kingmaker to a Mitt Romney challenger. Paul's super-organized staff and devoted young supporters—resemblances to President Obama's campaign in 2008—could actually enable him to win all the caucus states, which have a nomination system that favors the well prepared. Campaign chairman Jesse Benton said Paul is primed to win states like Idaho, Minnesota, Maine, and Louisiana—places that Romney has ignored so far. Although big primaries like those in New York and California could shut him out, Paul's strategy is perfect for the long haul, giving him a shot at gaining considerable influence in the later stages.
