If this is what it means to turn up the heat, then Newt Gingrich is going to be just fine. In a new ad that will run in Iowa this week, Mitt Romney emphasizes his successful marriage, family life, and religious values. Gingrich, on the other hand, has had three marriages and one conversion to Roman Catholicism. With only a few weeks before voting begins, and Gingrich surging in Iowa polls, Romney is on the offensive—he’s even scheduled a rare television appearance on Fox News Sunday. Romney’s camp says that they never expected a “coronation” and that the shift in campaign intensity is a reflection of where they’re at in the election season. Apparently, it has little to do with Gingrich.
