RNC Member Resigns

More casualties from the Republican National Committee bondage-club scandal: Sean Mahoney, a member of the committee from New Hampshire who voted for Chairman Michael Steele, has resigned. In a resignation letter Mahoney wrote, "The scandal represents a pattern of unaccountable and irresponsible mishaps that ought to unnerve every fiscal conservative." He cited a "lack of respect" for donors in the committee's spending habits. Disgust aside, Mahoney may have other motives: In order to run for office for New Hampshire's 1st congressional district, he would have to resign from the RNC anyway. Mahoney was quick, however, to re-assert that his resignation was in protest of the RNC's unsavory behavior and that any talk of his congressional run was "premature."
