After a vote, a recount, another tally, and a drawing of lots, Republican David Yancey on Thursday was declared the winner of the race for the 94th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates. Yancey, a three-term incumbent, had a lot with his name pulled from a bowl in Richmond. Yancey and Democratic candidate Shelly Simonds have been in a fierce back-and-forth since the November election. If Yancey’s victory stands, Republicans would have a 51-49 majority over Democrats in the Virginia House. Simonds, who has not conceded, has indicated she may seek another recount; at one point, officials had indicated she won the election by one vote.
