Report: Trump Will Tell Kim Jong Un to Dismantle Nukes First for Sanctions Relief

President Trump will tell North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during their upcoming summit that economic sanctions relief will not happen unless the country dismantles its nuclear arsenal, senior administration officials told The Wall Street Journal. “When the president says that he will not make the mistakes of the past, that means the U.S. will not be making substantial concessions, such as lifting sanctions, until North Korea has substantially dismantled its nuclear programs,” a senior administration official told the newspaper. Kim announced Friday that North Korea would cease conducting nuclear and missile tests, and Trump tweeted Sunday that the U.S. was “a long way from conclusion on North Korea.” CIA Director Mike Pompeo also visited Pyongyang in March to meet with the North Korean leader, who pushed a “phased agreement” with concessions on both sides, according to the Journal.
