Report: Trump Berated McConnell for Not ‘Protecting’ Him From Russia Probes

President Donald Trump reportedly berated Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell during a phone conversation earlier this month for refusing to “protect” him from the federal and congressional investigations into Russian election interference. The New York Times reports that the Aug. 9 phone call “quickly devolved into a profane shouting match,” with the two leaders going back and forth on a variety of subjects, including the Senate’s failed bid to repeal and replace Obamacare. Trump has suggested that McConnell should step down as majority leader if he doesn’t deliver on the president’s legislative agenda.
