Report: Sri Lankan Government Raped, Tortured Dozens of Men
Dozens of Tamil men seeking political asylum in Europe claim the government in Sri Lanka ordered them raped and tortured, the AP reports. An article out Wednesday details stories of men who say they were raped 12 times, beaten with iron rods, hung upside-down, and burned with cigarettes. “We heard screaming all the time,” said one man. The AP reviewed more than 30 medical and psychological evaluations in the course of reporting the story and interviewed 20 men, many of whom have extensive scars on their legs, chests, and groins.
