President-elect Donald Trump’s wife and young son will not be moving to the White House with him when he is inaugurated as the 45th president in January, according to a report. The New York Post reports that Melania Trump and Barron Trump will stay at their penthouse apartment in Trump Tower in New York City so that Barron can continue attending his private school. “Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign,” a source close to the transition team told the Post. “The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.” Melania Trump will reportedly travel to Washington as needed. The arrangement will require heavy security in and around Trump Tower.
On a call with reporters later Sunday morning, communications director Jason Miller said it has not yet been decided whether Barron and Melania will stay in New York, but added there is “obvious sensitivity” in pulling Barron, 10, from his school in the city’s upper west side before the end of the school year. NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell later reported that the pair will move to the White House at the end of the school year in mid-2017. Miller said the Trump transition team will be releasing a formal statement on the matter soon.
