Shootings in Chicago are down by 14 percent compared to the first six months of 2016, according to police statistics. So far 1,752 people have been shot in the city this year, with 309 fatalities, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Earlier this year the department deployed more ShotSpotter gunfire detectors and “Strategic Decision Support Centers” in five police districts, including some of the areas hit hardest by city violence. Overall, two-thirds of police districts have either seen a reduction in shootings or remain at the same level as last year.
