FBI agents found bomb-making material in the hotel room of an AWOL Muslim American solider arrested near Fort Hood, Texas, further raising concerns of a repeat of the 2009 attack that killed 13 people. Jason Abdo is now in custody at the Killeen Police Department near the Army base. Abdo was being investigated for child pornography discovered on his government computer but went AWOL on July 4. Abdo applied for conscientious-objector status just before his first deployment to Afghanistan. The request was denied by Fort Hood officers but later overturned by the Army review board. Two other soldiers have also raised concerns, and authorities have uncovered weapons and explosive material; however, the possibility of a plan to attack Fort Hood remains unclear.
