Report: Bloomberg Cancels White House Correspondents Dinner Afterparty
Bloomberg is canceling its annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner afterparty, according to an Axios report on Friday. The dinner, scheduled for April 29, usually draws journalists and celebrities from around the country, but this year the future of the event is in doubt partly due to President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks on the press. The night is typically a celebration of the freedom of the press and the president’s recognition of that. Axios reports, though, that the event will likely be sold out due to high ticket interest. “We surveyed some of the past attendees and didn't get as much interest in a party this year as we've had in the past, so we decided to focus on the dinner and the WHCA,” a Bloomberg spokesperson told the website. Earlier this month, Vanity Fair and the New Yorker decided to nix their WHCD parties.
