Rep. Steve King: DREAMers Will Have ‘Opportunity to Live in the Shadows’

Speaking to MSNBC on Wednesday, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) expressed his desire to let DACA "expire" and "drift off into the sunset" after the six-month window for congressional action laid out by the Trump administration. "They came here to live in the shadows," King said of the so-called DREAMers. "And we're not denying them that opportunity to live in the shadows." Asked by reporter Kasie Hunt if he was advising DACA recipients, who were an average age of six years old when they arrived in the U.S., to "live in the shadows," he said they should "make up their own mind." It was more than four years ago that King infamously said of those who would have benefited from the DREAM Act, "For everyone who’s a valedictorian, there’s another hundred out there who weigh a hundred and thirty pounds—and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they’re hauling seventy-five pounds of marijuana across the desert."
