Rebekah Brooks to Return to News Corp.

Rebekah Brooks, the former head of Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. newspapers, is in negotiations to return to News Corp. in an executive role focused on digital and social media, people familiar with the plans say. Brooks, who was acquitted last June on charges linked to phone hacking at the News of the World and payments to public officials at the Sun, has not yet signed a contract and her exact role has yet to be established, two people familiar with the plans said. There were conflicting reports in British media Sunday about Brooks’s new role, including a report from the Daily Mail that she will focus on new online acquisitions while the Financial Times pointed to the company’s social media news agency Storyful. A News Corp. representative declined to comment.
