Rangers to Play Yankees for Pennant

The Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees will battle for the American League pennant after the Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5 to 1 Tuesday night. The Rangers’ Cliff Lee struck out 11 and allowed just six hits in the fifth game of the playoff series. Friday night, the Rangers will host the Yankees in the best-of-seven league championship series; Texas lost to New York in the first round of playoffs in 1996, 1998, and 1999. Lee, playing for Philadelphia, beat the Yankees twice in the 2009 World Series. Until last night, Texas was the only active team in the major leagues that had never won a playoff series.
