Putin: U.S. List of Russian Oligarchs Is a ‘Hostile Step’

Vladimir Putin on Tuesday slammed the U.S. government for publishing a list of Russian oligarchs linked to him, even though many in Congress believe the Trump administration has watered down new anti-Putin measures that could have included additional sanctions. As well as the list of oligarchs published by the Treasury Department, the administration produced a report on the oligarchs and their wealth creation; that document remains classified. Putin said the public list was a “hostile step.” The document was was initially requested by Congress over allegations of Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election, and it names 114 officials in the Russian government, as well as 96 oligarchs with fortunes estimated at more than $1 billion.
