Putin: I’m ‘Trying to Save’ Assad

In an interview with 60 Minutes set to air Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is “trying to save the Assad administration” in Syria with a massive military build-up. “There is no other solution to the Syrian crisis than strengthening the effective government structures and rendering them help in fighting terrorism,” he told Charlie Rose, adding that destroying the government would result in the same chaos as Libya and Iraq. Putin has urged America and other allies to help fight ISIS.
