Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria married her former fitness trainer, Daniel Westling, on Saturday in a nearly $3 million ceremony that was the largest royal wedding in Europe since Prince Charles married Lady Diana in 1981. The couple began dating eight years ago, much to the King’s chagrin, but now Westling is a prince. Some 200,000 people lined the streets outside to greet them, even though the monarchy’s relevance is quickly fading in Sweden. Royalty flocked from all over Europe, but the absence of three major news organizations was far more notable. The Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, and Reuters snubbed the ceremony because Swedish state broadcaster SVT had imposed a 48-hour limit on redistribution. In a joint statement, the agencies said that the event was of historical importance and should not be regulated by rules designed for sports and entertainment events.
