Seventeen years ago today, the fashion world lost one of its greatest members. Just before 9 a.m., Italian designer Gianni Versace was shot outside his Miami Beach mansion by spree killer Andrew Cunanan; Versace was one of five Cunanan murdered before turning the gun on himself. The world has lost a wonderful creative genius, and I have lost a very dear friend.” — Elton John
