Poll: 70 Percent Wish Election Was Over

Did we need another measure to tell us Americans don’t like politicians? USA Today and Gallup released a new poll Friday revealing that 70 percent of voters in crucial swing states are not looking forward to the election. Gallup surveyed more than a 1,000 voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin. A mere 26 percent said they can’t wait for the presidential election to begin in earnest. What’s behind the distaste? The growing length of the campaign season means that voters are bombarded with more advertisements and requests for donations. Another factor, according to Gallup, could be the public’s general dislike of politicians and negative ads, which tend to turn people off. Despite the malaise, Gallup found that Americans won’t be tuning out completely. Seventy-two percent of respondents were looking forward to voting in November.
