Politifact Names ‘Lie of the Year’

Politics and honesty never went well together anyway. Politifact, the Florida-based nonpartisan fact-checking group called the term “government takeover of health care” its lie of the year. Careful not to dissect the law itself, the group noted that many of its provisions are entirely reliant on the free market, and that "government takeover" is a purely political misnomer. The group criticized journalists for not challenging use of the misleading term. Last year’s Lie of the Year was also related to the health-care debate: “death panels.”
