CRACKDOWN

Police to Seal Off Parts of Jerusalem

During an emergency meeting Tuesday, Israel’s cabinet authorized police to seal off “parts of Jersualem” and impose a curfew in certain areas in an effort to crack down on a string of violent attacks. Many of the recent attackers were from Arab areas of the Holy City. The new security measures also included deploying soldiers to support police as well as revoking “the permanent-residency rights of terrorists” and confiscating “property of terrorists who perpetrate attacks,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. The orders come after three Israelis were killed and more than 20 injured in shooting and stabbing attacks in Jerusalem and central Israel. The latest stabbing Wednesday injured a 50-year-old woman at a Jerusalem bus station.
