A 17-year-old British tourist in Norway has been mauled to death by a polar bear. The bear also infllicted "moderate to serious skin injuries" on four others, part of a British Schools Exploring Society group that travelled to the remote island of Spitsbergen. Polar bears have rarely been known to attack humans, but local sources describe this bear as starving due to a dwindling sea ice in the region. The bear was shot after the attack.
