War for the Planet of the Apes dethroned Spider-Man: Homecoming for the No. 1 spot in theaters this weekend. The film by 20th Century Fox, the latest reboot of the original 1968 film, tells the origin story of how apes battle an army of humans to take over the planet. Andy Serkis stars as the leader of the apes, who faces off against Woody Harrelson as the ruthless colonel leading the humans.
