Phone Hacking a Widespread Practice

It’s possible that at least 28 people who were at one time employed by News Corp.’s News of the World and two other tabloids were involved in illegally hacking voicemails of celebrities, crime victims, and politicians, suggesting the practice was much more widespread than previously assumed. The notebooks of one private investigator already jailed for phone hacking for News of the World listed the names of 28 onetime employees, suggesting he’d been asked by these people to hack phones. The investigator’s notebooks indicate that he was given 2,266 hacking assignments.
