Pentagon Will Allow Transgender People to Enlist in 2018
The Pentagon announced Monday it will allow transgender people to enlist in the military beginning Jan. 1, 2018—despite vocal opposition from President Trump. The Washington Postreported that officials were “taking steps to be prepared” to bring in the first transgender recruits. The Defense Department and Justice Department are currently consulting on the issue, said Army Maj. David Eastburn. Two federal courts already have ruled against the transgender military ban proposed by Trump. In response to the report, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the Trump administration is considering legal options to keep the ban in place.
