Paramount TV President Amy Powell Axed Over Inappropriate Comments

The president of Paramount Television has reportedly been fired after “multiple individuals” raised concerns over inappropriate comments she’d made. Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos announced Amy Powell’s dismissal in an internal memo to staff Thursday, saying Powell had made certain unspecified comments in a “professional setting” that some individuals considered “inconsistent” with Viacom’s values, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Having spent the past several days conducting a thorough investigation into this matter and speaking to those who were present, our human resources and legal teams came to the same conclusion, and we have made the decision to terminate Amy’s employment, effective immediately,” Gianopulos said. No details were given on Powell’s alleged comments, but sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter said they included racially charged generalizations about black women. Powell, who was hired to head the network five years ago, was behind Netflix’s hit series 13 Reasons Why and TNT’s The Alienist.
