Panama Firm: It Was a Hack, Not a Leak

The Panama law firm that was thrust into the spotlight this week when 11.5 million of its documents were made public has said the hack came from an external source. A lawyer said he has filed a criminal complaint with state prosecutors and “has a theory” about how the documents got out. Ramon Fonseca, a founding partner of Mossack Fonseca, said the firm does set up offshore companies but has broken no laws. Fonseca told Reuters that the company never helped launder money or destroy documents. “We rule out an inside job. This is not a leak,” Fonseca said. “This is a hack.”
