Sarah Palin hates to say “I told you so,” but when it comes to Todd Akin, she kind of did, having stumped for his opponent Sarah Steelman in the Missouri primary. “I hate to gloat, but I was right,” Palin told Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren. “Bless his heart, I don’t want to pile on Todd Akin because in some respects I understand what he’s trying to say here, in standing on principle, that he doesn’t want to be perceived as a quitter. But you got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them.” In addition to being among those in the Republican ranks who thinks Akin should drop out, Palin also sees this as an opportunity for her girl Steelman to get back in the race as a third-party candidate. “Missouri is a must-win state,” she said.
