Oslo Bans Cars in City Center

Oslo’s city government announced Monday that it plans to ban private cars from the city center by 2019 in an attempt to cut carbon emissions by 50 percent in the Norwegian capital. The city center itself is home to only 1,000 or so people but some 90,000 work there, with 11 major shopping areas. After the plan is fully implemented, Oslo’s central streets will be populated mostly by mass transit, pedestrian pathways, and bike lanes.
