Oscars Board to Discuss New Envelope Protocols

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ board of governors is meeting this week to discuss potential changes to the envelope system through which winners are announced at the Oscars each year. The possible shakeup comes after bungling at this year’s awards caused a mistaken winner to be announced. Warren Beatty was handed the wrong envelope backstage, which led him to mistakenly say La La Land won Best Picture, when the winner was actually Moonlight. The Academy is expected to keep accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers in charge of the envelope system, despite company officials being blamed for the mixup.
