Oprah Heading to Georgia to Campaign for Stacey Abrams
Oprah Winfrey will head to Georgia this week to campaign for Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate for governor who would become the first ever black woman governor if she wins. Republican candidate Brian Kemp will be joined by Mike Pence and Donald Trump on separate visits later in the week. Winfrey’s endorsement of Abrams follows backing from Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Winfrey rarely campaigns for politicians—she campaigned with Obama in 2008 but only endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016. On Thursday she’ll join Abrams at two town-hall conversations with constituents and will also be knocking on doors to speak to voters. The Georgia governor’s race is neck-and-neck and has been the focus of scrutiny over allegations of voter suppression.
