One Killed After Aspen Avalanche

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday one person was killed in an avalanche outside of Aspen. The avalanche, which occurred in the area of the 37 minutes outside of Aspen, caught the victim in the slide and died, authorities said.

"Our office has been notified of an avalanche outside Aspen, in the area of the Markley Hut," the sheriff's department said in a tweet. "The slide caught one individual & has claimed the life of that individual."

Deputies and Mountain Rescue Aspen are working to recover the body and has yet to identify the name, age, gender, and hometown of the victim.
