Oklahoma Right-Wing Activist Charged in Anti-Government Bombing Plot

An Oklahoma man was arrested late Friday night after he tried to detonate what he thought was a 1,000-pound bomb outside a bank, The Washington Post reported Monday. The FBI had reportedly been investigating Jerry Drake Varnell undercover for months—in one conversation he said he believed in the far-right “Three Percenter” ideology. Throughout the investigation Varnell repeatedly made statements about his hatred for the U.S. government and his admiration for 1995 Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.
