Ohio Gov. Spares Death Row Inmate

Ohio governor John Kasich announced on Wednesday that he would commute the death sentence of Arthur Tyler to life without parole. Tyler was convicted in 1986 for the murder of a produce vendor, Sander Leach. His case was controversial because his co-defendant, Leroy Head, confessed to murdering Leach, but later changed his story. Kasich’s decision comes on the same day Oklahoma governor Mary Fallin decided to stay all state executions until the problems with Tuesday’s botched execution of Clayton Lockett are fully understood.
