Obama Wants $500M to Train Syria Rebels

President Obama requested $500 million from Congress on Thursday to train and arm certain factions of the Syrian opposition who have been vetted. The Senate Armed Services Committee has agreed to to a version of the bill that will provide "equipment, supplies, training, and defense services" to pre-screened rebel groups, and the Senate will vote on the bill possibly before August's recess. The ask is part of a $65.8 billion overseas operations request and nestled within that in a $1.5 billion stabilization package for Syria's bordering neighbors: Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraq.
