TALKING POINTS

Obama vs. Cheney

On the same day that a plan to bomb a synogogue in the Bronx, both President Obama and Dick Cheney are scheduled to give speeches on national security. Yesterday, the Senate rejected, 90 to 6, Obama's request for funds to shutter Guantanamo after FBI Director Robert Mueller testified that the 240 occupants of Guantanamo could pose a threat to America, as nearly 14 percent of the 534 detainees who have left Guantanamo since it opened in 2002 have engaged in subsequent terrorism. A White House spokesman said Obama's speech would cover topics like "military commissions... photos, state secrets, transparency and protecting our national security," although it won't lay out a plan for closing the prison.
