Obama to Visit Louisiana Flood Zone on Tuesday

President Obama will visit Louisiana on Tuesday to survey the damage from recent flooding across the southern portion of the state, the White House announced Friday. Obama, who is on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, has taken criticism from Republicans as GOP nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, toured the disaster areas Friday. Additionally, Louisiana’s largest newspaper, The Advocate, published an editorial Thursday calling upon the president to abandon his planned vacation to visit “the most anguished state in the nation.” Thirteen people have died as a result of the flooding, and more than 40,000 structures were destroyed. The Red Cross has characterized the flooding as the worst U.S. natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the Mid-Atlantic seaboard in 2012.
