Obama to Dismantle 9/11-Era Registry

President Obama will dismantle a 9/11-era national registry program for visitors to the U.S. from countries with active terrorist groups, an action that many have requested before Donald Trump takes office. Trump has indicated that he hopes to resurrect the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System, which was created in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It has not been used since 2011, and many see Obama's move to dismantle the program as largely symbolic. Trump has said repeatedly that he intends to set up a registry for Muslims in the U.S. and ban others from entering the country. When asked about the Berlin attack and whether he still plans to set up such a system, Trump said Wednesday: “You know my plans.”
