Obama Rushes Team Overhaul

Economic adviser Lawrence Summers’ announced departure from President Barack Obama’s administration signaled a facelift for the White House, just a few months prior to the midterm elections. When Summers departs, just two out of the five original players on Obama’s economic team will remain. And rumors are flying that Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel will leave to run for Chicago mayor. David Rothkopf, a former Clinton administration official, called the turnover “beyond the normal turnover you would expect after two years.” Some have speculated that Obama will need to bring someone onto his economic team who is distant from the much-maligned economic stimulus, possibly someone from the private sector.
