Obama Promises Historic Relief Effort

This ought to put some more fire in Rush Limbaugh’s breath: President Obama said on Thursday that “one of the largest relief efforts in our recent history” is on its way to Haiti, where the Red Cross estimates a death toll of 50,000. He promised an initial investment of $100 million in relief and said the amount would grow over the year. U.S. resources are already on the ground providing water, medicine, search-and-rescue efforts, and airlifts; Obama said it would take “maybe days” to get the full relief force on the ground. To Haitians, Obama said, “you will not be forsaken.”
