Obama May Release ‘Kill’ Memo

The White House is debating whether to release the classified memo authorizing the assassination of the terrorist and U.S. citizen Anwar al-Awlaki, according to CNN. On Sunday, The New York Times published the most extensive account of the memo yet, based on interviews with officials who had seen it: it authorized killing Awlaki only if it were not feasible to capture him alive, and it was written to the specifics of the case, not as a broad new legal doctrine sanctioning assassination. The attack on Awlaki also killed another U.S. citizen affiliated with al Qaeda, Samir Khan. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula confirmed both Awlaki's and Khan’s deaths on Monday.
