Obama, GOP’s SCOTUS Meeting Was Futile

A Tuesday meeting at the White House between President Obama and top senators, including Republican leaders, reportedly did nothing to resolve the dispute over filling the seat vacated by late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Obama convened with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, as well as Democratic allies in Harry Reid and Patrick Leahy. Following the rendezvous, neither Grassley nor McConnell spoke to the press, but Reid told reporters that his Republican colleagues were “adamant” in their refusal to hold confirmation hearings on a new court nominee before the election. “They think they are going to wait and see what President Trump will do I guess,” Reid mocked.
